Has anyone painted the entire interior of your house? My house is 1600 square feet with vaulted ceilings on the second floor. How long did it take you to paint the interior of your house?
why are interior doors so expensive- and where can I get something reasonably priced? I need 2 different types of interior door. French doors for my bedroom because the doorway is oversized and of an odd size, so nothing else will really fit there, and 2 sets of closet doors- 1 for the closet in the bedroom and 1 for the closet in the living room. The closet in the bedroom will more likely then not have to use the closet doors that run on a track- the ones with the slats in them. I think they are called bifold doors. The closet in the living room will probably have to use this type of door as well, it's another one of those oversized/oddly sized doorways. All the major stores (home depot, lowes, etc.) seem to be asking hundred of dollars for even the most basic door, and I haven't been able to track down bifold closet doors at all so far, though I admit I haven’t been looking long. Any suggestions on where to go to get reasonably priced doors of these types in Brooklyn NY or somewhere close by? Thanks! I don't own the space, It's an apartment I'm renting. The landlord may contribute a little or take off some from my rent, but if I go and buy something really expensive he definitely won't cover it. I don't want to spend too much on a place I can't keep, but I need bedroom and closet doors. Some people say a few hundred dollars for a door isn't expensive. A door is basically a wood rectangle with a hole for the knob, hinges, and some decorative elements added if you like. It shouldn't cost more then a dresser, couch, or big screen tv. I had purchased an exterior door -solid wood, already finished, primed, and painted, and not on sale- at home depot a few years ago for $60. I refuse to believe that your average door is now worth several hundred. If that's the going price then things really are way out of control and I'm going to have to start making my own furniture.
How can I dry out the interior of an insulated travel mug? Is there any way to get water out of the interior of an insulated travel mug? This is one of those with a stainless steel container surrounded by a see-through acrylic shell with an air space in between. I inadvertently ran mine (a gift with sentimental value) through the dishwasher (even though it says on the bottom “not dishwasher safe”! Duh!) Now it has about a half teaspoon of water in the interior space. Is there any way to get this out with destroying or damaging the mug? What does an interior decorator actually do? I am thinking of redecorating my rented apartment and I realize that I have no idea where to place furniture, where to find what I want, etc. I could use some expertise. What is the convention for an interior designer to quote wardrobe area? An interior designer quoted, in the cost estimate, the area of a wardrobe to be 63 sqft. The frontal dimensions of the finished wardrobe are 5' x 9'. Based on experience with other interior designers, I was expecting the wardrobe to be 7'x9' (=63sqft). I thought that's the convention for costing a wardrobe by area.. measure the elevation width and height and multiply the two. Is this correct?
How does my interior waterproofing work? How does my sump pump fill? I have never had flooding in my basement (even in the heaviest of rains in Cleveland area last year) but I have interior waterproofing and a sump pump that works, but I am curious to know how the well fills when I rarely see the 2 pipes that lead into it draining water. How much should I charge to do interior design for a one bedroom apartment? So heres the deal. I'm not an interior designer but I am a professional artist, and I just did a painting for a client. He asked me to redecorate his entire apartment. Anything I want to do, I can. Now I have no idea how much to charge him (on top of costs). This would be a major undertaking-hiring helpers, cleaners, movers, ect. Should I charge a flat rate or by the hour? And how much? Has anyone recently hired an interior designer? how much did you pay? This has all been really helpful. I'd like to add some details thought. I don't charge hourly for paintings. Just a flat rate, I recently charged $5000 for a painting plus $500 for supplies. This particular fella doesn't know the going rate for interior decorators. I made a comment about his apartment and he said he wants me to decorate it and I said I would think about it. I mostly want to hear that it's okay to charge 5000 to 7000 plus materials to completely decorate his apartment. I'm talking everything from the kitchen to the bathroom. Steam cleaning the carpets, painting the walls and trim. new dishes. maybe even new clothes. Thanks for the answers so far everyone!
