how did interior designs do their work before computers?

technology seems to have taken over almost everything but before computer-aided design, how did designers plan, produce and present their designs.

  1. using Autocad!!!! We engineers use that as well.....
  2. Mechanical drawing and illustration by hand...many still use this.
  3. by themselves.real art starts as nothing, appearing by you:remembered by others when you do.plan not to do ,then plan leaving it as you created it.use a lot of paper and scissors
  4. All design work was, and still is by many like myself, done using a Drawing Board / Draughting Board. They are available in many sizes, some very large, and house what is known as a Machine. The Machine is fitted to an arm which moves on small rollers horizontally across the board. The Machine moves vertically across the arm, so all angles are covered. The Machine has 2 rulers connected to it set at 90 degrees to eachother, and they are able to rotate around the head of the machine to be set at which ever angle you choose. The board is very useful for producing technical and perspective drawings, like plans, elevations, interiors etc, but the process just takes a little longer than that of using design / draughting software. In terms of presentation: all drawings were usually rendered by hand using a variety of media, such as paint, ink, pencils, airbrush, draughting markers etc. Hope that explains it for you.
