What is the required fire rating for an interior door to a garage?
Anybody know the typical fire rating requirement for an interior door going into a single-car garage? I suspect it is one hour, but not positive. I'm in Quebec, but I suspect the code is the same across Canada.

- In the US it's 1 hour
- it is
- Not sure for you guys up in the great white north but here in the states a residential garage firewall is 20 minuet fire rating so door must meet same requirements. This is met by a rating sticker on the edge or by a solid core door of at least 1-3/8 inch thick. Also, the door must be self-closing and latching. BTW, no "pet doors" through the fire door Duh!
- In Ontario it is a minimum of 1 hour. OBC 9.10.9.16(2) A storage garage containing 5 or less vehicles shall be separated from the home by a fire separation of not less than 1 hour. (not word for word but close) It is most likely the same in Quebec, best to find out for sure. look up QBC (Quebec building code) on the net and email them. and always remember the code is the minimum requirement you can do better
