How do I remove a knob on an interior door?
I've hit a snag and could really use some help. The pictures on this site show basically my exact latch-style knob: http://www.wikihow.com/Replace-an-Interior-Doorknob However between step 4 and 5 they don't show how to get the metal rod out of the middle. I'm afraid of damaging the door at this point if I just start hammering at it. Any help would be most appreciated! I've removed several door knobs in my life, but this one is tricky. I've taken off both knobs, but if you look at the link the knobs are off and the rod is still there. I can't get it out. There are no more screws to remove. Normally the middle rod is connected to one of the handles.

- Just pull it out. Or check to see if there are any screws holding the opposite door knob in place.
- The rod comes out with the door knob on the opposite side of the door. On the other side of the door are two screws (for interior doors--exterior doors only have screws on the inside of the door that go all the way through the door and hold the outside knob). Take off both door knobs and you'll see what I mean.
- Take long nose pliers, stick it where this handle is giving you the problem and give a good ole yank.. there shouldn't be anything there holding it back.. if this doesn't help or any of the other folks words of guidance then I would suggest you purchase another door with what type of handle you want.
- it could be rust build up, or a burr holding it. try gently taping it with a hammer that doesn't work try A vise grip and a block of wood lock the vise grips on the piece you wanna remove and slowly pry the piece using the wood block as to not damage the door. other wise lock at the lock strike and make sure there aren't two little holes that would mean there are set screws holding it all together if this is the case you need to use a allen wrench to loosen the two screws
- have you tried pushing the latch itseelf in and then pulling on the the rod
